Dragon’s Breath Pepper

Could the Dragon’s Breath pepper be the new World’s Hottest Pepper? Only time will tell. Guinness World Records has yet to confirm the SHU (Scoville Heat Unit, a measure of spiciness) values published.

Heat

Current testing of the Dragon’s Breath is averaging 2,483,584 SHU which is over 800,000 SHU HIGHER than Carolina Reaper‘s average SHU of 1,641,000. That is absolutely insane! Scoville testing was completed by Nottingham Trent University.

Think of it this way:

The Dragon’s Breath pepper has the heat of a Carolina Reaper and Ghost Pepper combined!

Pod Shape

The current images are of immature, un-pollinated peppers that didn’t fully develop. As soon as our plants produce proper pods, the product pictures will be updated. The true pod shape and size are not accurately depicted in the press release by Mike Smith from Wales, UK.

Flavor

Dragon’s Breath flavor is described as having a hint of fruitiness followed by a title-wave of heat that keeps on building.

Origin

Mike Smith, the creator, reports that the origin of the Dragon’s Breath pepper came from plants from a fellow farmer, Neal Price in Nottinghamshire, UK. It is thought to be a variation of the Infinity Pepper.

The pepper is named after the Welsh Dragon.

Smith says he originally developed the pepper for making topical essential oils used as an anesthetic. Topical capsaicin creams can reduce pain caused by arthritis, sprains and back pain.

While it may have been developed for medical reasons it will make a great addition to our super hot pepper lineup!
